My name is Linda Barkoot and I am a second grade teacher at Burch Elementary School in Tyrone, GA. My school is going to have a Bear Tracks 1 Mile Fun Run, 5K, and Tot Trot Race on March 18, 2017. Our school and community are very excited about this event. The proceeds of this event are going to go to JDRF to help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. That’s where I come in. My youngest daughter was diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic in June 2011, at the age of 11. It was a complete shock and as a parent it is certainly difficult to see your child have to live with a chronic disease. Diabetes is never easy, but for children and adults with Type 1 the complications are enormous. It does not matter what they eat or how healthy their lifestyles are, they are insulin dependent for life. Diabetics check their blood sugar at least 6 times a day and take at least 4 shots a day. Insulin keeps them alive, it is not a cure. Children do not outgrow this; it is for life until there is a cure. Because all causes require financial backing, we are looking for sponsors or donors to support our race. I know these are hard economic times, so if you are unable to support our race, please keep Type 1 diabetics and diabetes research in your prayers.
If you would like to help, here are some ways:
· Make a financial donation- this is the most helpful in raising funds for JDRF Research
· Come have fun and run our race-have family and friends join you
· Donate items from your business to raffle off on race day
Thank you so much for your time. Together we do make a difference! I look forward to seeing you race day!
