Support Fayette’s Schools By Being a Substitute

Join the Fayette County School System’s team this coming school year by being a substitute employee in the areas of food service, after school care, and transportation.Hiring Substitutes

All three areas are in need of substitutes to cover for full time employees when they are absent or sick. No experience or education in any of the areas is needed. Applicants are required to have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and be at least 18 years old.

Substitute jobs are not benefitted positions. However, with both food services and transportation, potential full-time benefitted employees for these areas are pulled from the substitute list. Substitutes might be called weeks in advance to cover for a scheduled extended absence, or called the morning of to fill-in that day for an unexpected absence.

A school system sponsored commercial driver’s license (CDL) training course is provided for school bus driver substitutes. The course must be successfully completed with the applicant earning his or her CDL before being able to work as a substitute driver.

Substitutes in the After School Program (ASP) can set their own weekly schedules. They can work in all elementary ASP sites, or select their preferred sites. Prior to working as a substitute, applicants job shadow an existing employee for a couple of days so that they can become familiar with how the program operates.
