Just a few points away from making a perfect score in her event at the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Conference, a Starr’s Mill High student earns the highest score a national competitor has ever received at the school.
Anslee Tokar, who competed in the “Teach and Train” event, brought home a gold medal and a score of 91.33 out of 100. She was among the 95 Georgia students statewide who won gold medals in their events at the national conference, which was held in San Diego, California July 3-7.
Also, representing the Starr’s Mill at the national event were Christine Rolfes and Dana Newman who brought home silver medals in the “Entrepreneurship” event, earning a score of 83.33. They were among the 90 students in the state who won silver medals at the competition.
Tokar, Rolfes and Newman were the only students from Fayette County competing at the FCCLA national conference. All three earned spots at the event by receiving gold medals in their areas at the state conference.
Hope Via served as the students’ coach, and is also the FCCLA co-advisor at Starr’s Mill High.
FCCLA is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through family and consumer science education.
