The Georgia Department of Education has awarded North Fayette Elementary $11,000 through its competitive equipment grant program to purchase a new hydrovection oven for the school’s cafeteria.
The school was awarded the oven based on its high student participation at both breakfast and lunch. On average, 143 students eat breakfast, and 424 (about 70 percent of the students enrolled at North Fayette) eat lunch.
“The school was in need of some updated equipment, especially when the staff is feeding so many students,” says Christina Martin of the school system’s School Nutrition Program (SNP).
The grant covered the cost of the oven plus installation and training. Patty Sullivan, a staff member of the school system’s SNP, applied for the grant.
