School Recertified in Digital Citizenship by Common Sense

Dedication to teaching students how to use technology safely and responsibly, while harnessing it for learning and life, has earned Sara Harp Minter Elementary the designation of being a Common Sense Certified School in Digital Citizenship for a second consecutive year.School Recertified in Digital Citizenship by Common Sense

Not only does the school educate students about the proper use of technology, but it also involves the parents by teaching them tangible skills about Internet safety, protecting personal privacy and reputations, and respecting creative copyright.

Jaime Vandergrift, the school’s instructional technology specialist, spearheaded the effort to get the school recertified, and she was also recertified as a Common Sense Certified Educator. This year she added another certification to the list, Certified Ambassador. As an ambassador, Vandergrift will share her passion about teaching with technology and digital citizenship by making presentations to educators at conferences, workshops and staff meetings, both locally and nationally.

Common Sense certification is for one year. Schools and teachers must complete all of the actions required for certification each year, and then recertify by submitting an application.

Common Sense is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children, families, and teachers thrive in a rapidly changing world of technology and media by rating products, providing free teacher resources, and advocating for legislation, both nationally and at the state level, that benefits children.
