Three robotics teams from J.C. Booth Middle will compete in the Georgia FIRST LEGO League state championship on February 4 at Georgia Gwinnett College.
BLT Warriors, The HIVE, and Turtle Troopers are advancing to the state championship based on their scores from the Starbase Robins Super-Regional tournament held at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins on January 21.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League (FLL) issues a challenge each year that has three parts: the robot game, project and core values. Teams participate in the challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (robot game), developing a solution to a problem they have identified (project), all guided by the FLL Core Values.
The HIVE brought home the Champions award, finishing in first place overall at the super-regional competition. Team members are Dalton Toner, Chase Evans, Michael Johnson, Caleb Claiborne, Madeline Nolen, Andrei Gazinschi, and Jack Flynn. The coaches are Tim Toner and Chad Evans.
Turtle Troopers took first place in the robot game. Team members are Mikela Zuniga, Jack Hemenway, Nicholas DellaTorre, Rylan Christen, Adeola Batiste, Max Roggermeier, Keelan Garcia, and Marc VanZyl. The coaches are Tony DellaTorre, Dennis Christen, and Gerrie VanZyl.
The BLT Warriors won the award for Best Robot Design. Team members are Daniel Scott, Ian Fisher, Julian Gevertz, Colin McKay, Georgie Harris, and Caelyn Grimes. The coaches are Amanda Scott and Stephanie Fisher.
