Sandy Creek boys repeat as state track champs

A long list of impressive showings by local athletes at the 2024 GHSA Track & Field State Championships was highlighted by a second-straight team title for the Sandy Creek boys.

All five county schools posted multiple top 5 finishes across a variety of competitions. The Patriots dominated at the Class 3A meet with the boys the overall team champion and the Lady Patriots finishing 4th overall.

On the boys side, Dalen Penson won both the 110 meter hurdles and triple jump, Jude Adderley placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles and 3rd in the 110 meter hurdles, Blake Davis placed 4th in the triple jump and 5th in the high jump, Chinedum Ike finished 2nd in the triple jump, Rod Smith Jr. placed 4th in the 400 meter dash, Tre Olive placed 5th in the 100 meter dash, and Zavion Green placed 5th in the 200 meter dash.

The team of Zavion Green, Olive, Zalen Green, and Penson finished 2nd in the 4x200 meter relay. The team of Eddie Stephens, Zavion Green Penson, and Olive placed 3rd in the 4x100 meter relay. The team of Chandler Wyckoff, Sam Brown, Avery Moran, and Andre Kelly III placed 3rd in the 4x800 meter relay.

On the girls side, Bobbi Olive won both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash, Noelle Boyd placed 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles, and Erin Smith placed 4th in the 100 meter hurdles. The team of Boyd, Angel Harvey, McKenzie Paul, and Olive placed 3rd in the 4x100 meter relay. The team of Kalani Banks, Aniyah Bowe, Boyd, and Empress Malone placed 3rd in the 4x400 meter relay.

In Class 4A, Starr’s Mill led the way. The boys finished 5th with the girls in 6th.

On the boys side, Jared Moore won in both the shot put and discus throw. The team of Bankson Roach, Cannon McFall, Nate Pacetti, and Jason Li placed 5th in the 4x800 meter relay.

On the girls side, Mia Brown finished 2nd in the 400 meter dash, Kali McQuade finished 2nd in the 800 meter run, Emma Arnold placed 4th in the 300 meter hurdles, and Kendra Ivaska placed 5th in the 800 meter run. The team of Arnold, Brown, McQuade, and Ivaska placed 3rd in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Ivaska, Ana Miller, Gabriella Roach, and McQuade placed 4th in the 4x800 meter relay.

The Fayette County boys finished 9th, and the girls finished 16th.

On the boys side, Justin Warner won the 800 meter run, and Allen Israel Sulton IV placed 4th in the 800 meter run. The 4x400 meter relay of Kahilil Hopper, Zakhari Rivers, Sulton, and Warner finished 2nd.

On the girls side, Angel Johnson placed 4th in the long jump, and Marzani Sconyers placed 5th in the 100 meter hurdles.

The Whitewater boys finished 19th, and the girls finished 15th.

On the boys side, Courtland Sabino finished 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles and 3rd in the 110 meter hurdles.

On the girls side, Taylor Tarpley placed 3rd in the 3,200 meter run and 4th in the 1,600 meter run. The team of Jayla Fouse, Amanda Moreno, Jayda Smith, and Zahriya Sullivan placed 4th in the 4x400 meter relay.

McIntosh competed in the Class 5A meet. The girls finished 17th overall, and the boys finished 32nd overall.

Mamadou Boube placed 5th in the boys 300 meter hurdles, and Jessica Osayi placed 5th in the girls 100 meter dash.
